I went to the theatre for the play "Agamemnon" today. "Agamemnon" is one of the most famous and classical ancient Greek tragedy wrote by the father of Greek tragedy, Aeschylus. It's the first play of the Oresteia, and the rest two are "The Libation Bearers" and "The Eumenides". This time, the company adapted this play to a short 75-minutes performance, every lines of chorus part were cut to less than 5 lines (in the original play, the part of chorus' lines were written more than 2 pages). The director tried to combine the western culture of the original play with the eastern culture, so he chose the style of Japanese Ukiyo-e and Laban to interpret the play, and I have to say, it didn't work well. Although the actors do have great performing skills, this big try couldn't make both the line-part and the acting-part unity. Actors tried to convey the emotion of lines by different volume, loud and low, and sometimes you could hear their voice cracked and couldn't hear clearly when they speak loud. All characters showed up with drumbeats live-playing by the sounds-designer, it's similar to the "Percussion" of Chinese opera, however, both the tempo of actor-speaking and the drumbeats from the beginning to the end were so consistent that audience would easily get tired and bored. The space of the experimental theatre is so small and they doesn't control the number of audience that every audience sited crowded and uncomfortable on the cushion. It's hard to reproduce the ancient Greek tragedy, especially for us (people unfamiliar with western culture). Although each part of this production (including the stage, sounds and music, clothing and styling, lighting, acting, and directing) didn't match so well, the big intercultural try still showed its value. Outfits of today is easy and comfy. Gray leather jacket on black leather skirt with simple loose t-shirt. I was a heels-lover, but I didn't wear heels since my legs got hurt. Shoes of today are new leather loafers with golden chain on them. Some of you asked me about where to buy my outfits, actually it's my 3rd job I didn't tell you. Besides 2 jobs in the theatre, my 3rd jobs is selling clothes. However, it couldn't ship worldwide yet because the shipping costs is too expensive. If you were my blog-readers in Taiwan, you could check my on-line shopping web here. Hope you'll like my sharing today.
